Over 30 participating museums and galleries across New York City celebrate the 12th edition of Asia Contemporary Art Week and present art from both inside and outside of Asia through cutting-edge solo and group exhibitions and public programs including screenings, performances, and symposia. Center stage to the week is the 5th iteration of FIELD MEETING exhibition in the form of an exclusive art forum curated by ACAW director Leeza Ahmady, with 30 keynote artists and creative figures staging newly conceived performances, talks, & lectures-performances hosted at Asia Society Museum & School of Visual Arts Theatre. ACAW 2017 also presents a new series of pop-up exhibitions entitled THINKING PROJECTS opening at select venues to highlight long-term, process-oriented artistic endeavors with artists nominated by ACAW’s growing community of Asia-based consortium partners, including a special co-presentation of artists as part of Beijing Contemporary Art Foundation (BCAF) inaugural Creative China Festival in New York.

FIELD MEETING Take 5: Thinking Projects

The signature annual art forum returns with over 30 artists, scholars, and curators from Asia and beyond exploring notion of “projects” and its various associations in the fields of visual arts, design, literature, moving images, and other creative disciplines. The forum carries forward the discussion of “practice” from last year’s program to explore the fluid sometime even contradictory nature of “projects” within everyday creative and curatorial practice. Performances and lecture-performances are presented from a spectrum of vantage points, from solo artistic projects, fictional literature, art criticism, to programmatic development by major cultural institutions.

As an extension to FIELD MEETING, a series of pop-up exhibitions are organized across a network of select venues in New York City to showcase long term process-oriented artistic endeavors in and out of the region today. These pop-up exhibitions also highlights the vibrancy of ACAW’s growing community of Asia-based consortium partners, including a special co-presentation of artists as part of Beijing Contemporary Art Foundation (BCAF) inaugural Creative China Festival in New York.

Artist: Nadiah Bamadhaj(Jogjakarta), Guo Hongwei(Beijing), İrfan Önürmen (Istanbul), Yang Xin (Beijing), Judy Blum-Reddy (New York) and Sumakshi Singh (Delhi); including a special co-presentation of artists Li Jun, Yu Fan and Song Dong (Beijing) as part of the inaugural Creative China Festival in New York.
