In October 2016, ACAW launched FIELD REVIEW, a semi-annual online journal providing a platform for writers, curators, and art historians to critically engage with contemporary art discourse. As an extension of the FIELD MEETING art forum, each issue of FIELD REVIEW explores the artistic developments and pressing cultural themes within one of two regions: South Asia and the Middle East. The inaugural issue, FIELD REVIEW: South Asia, presented six commissioned essays examining the increasing adoption of contemporary art historical frameworks, alongside the evolving role of art criticism and writing, in the region’s arts discourse. Focusing on abstraction, the essays investigated connections between visual artists and other cultural producers—poets, filmmakers, musicians, philosophers, and architects—offering broader socio-political and psychological insights. The second issue, FIELD REVIEW: Middle East, developed in collaboration with ACAW Consortium Partner ArteEast, featured seven case studies exploring the dynamic creative movements across the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa). These movements included inaugural museum exhibitions, satellite biennials, design fairs, and emerging collectives.
