This web archive traces the evolution of Asia Contemporary Art Week (ACAW), which became Asia Contemporary Art Forum (ACAF) in 2019. Since its founding in 2001, ACAW has bridged gaps in contemporary art, promoting a deeper understanding of art and culture from Asia and its diaspora. By bringing together leading New York-based and Asia-based art institutions, museums, and galleries, ACAW presented numerous groundbreaking exhibitions, innovative projects, and thought-provoking discussions on pressing contemporary art, historical, and societal issues. It also created invaluable networking opportunities, solidifying its role as a key platform for introducing the best in contemporary art from across Asia—including the less visible regions of Central and Southeast Asia.
ACAW served as an exceptional visibility platform for museums, galleries, and institutions representing Asia-based artists. Past editions drew an audience of over 200,000 visitors, attracting an influential class of museum directors, leading curators, Asia-specialist art advisors, gallerists, and prominent collectors. Its programming ranged from solo and group exhibitions, opening receptions, screenings, performances, talks, panel discussions, symposia, and other social gatherings and festivities.
